The idea for the work originated from a walk of about a month along the Pyrenees Route, between the Cantabrian Sea and the Mediterranean, undertaken and documented by Pedro Vaz. According to him, more than a physical journey, it was a prolonged encounter with the landscape, an exercise in attention, resistance, and attunement between body and place, in which walking became a form of listening. Starting from this premise, Hugo Vasco Reis composes a work for Drumming — a percussion and electronics group — based on the thought of the philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy, when he argues that sound is not a fixed phenomenon. It propagates, vibrates, and transforms. When we listen, we are not merely passive receivers — the body resonates with the sound. This implies that the subject who listens participates in the sound phenomenon, through the relationship between body and space, in a vibratory and relational process. "Demora" is a contemporary musical work about listening and mediating, listening to small sounds, tiny sounds, in a context associated with nature, its transformation and translation.
